Metabones Smart Adapter (Canon EF/EF-S to Sony E, Mark II/III class) supports electronic aperture control, EXIF, IS, and AF with supported EF lenses, but AF is slow for moving subjects, continuous AF/DMF are not supported, and full AF support is limited to newer Canon EF lenses (post-2006) and specific adapter/firmware versions.

Clear dates

Canon EF lenses (see Appendix in the “Instructions” section)
Canon EF-S lenses (some lenses may vignette because the adapter is designed for 1.6x crop, while Sony NEX has a 1.5x crop sensor)
Stabilization
Electronic manual focus (e.g., Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II and Canon EF 50mm f/1.0L)
EXIF (focal length, aperture, zoom range)
Shooting modes P, A, S, M
Autofocus (see Appendix in the “Instructions” section)
Display of distance and zoom on VG and FS camcorder series (with lenses that support distance information)
Contax N lenses modified for Canon by Conurus
Contax 645 NAM-1 lenses modified for Canon by Conurus
Sigma, Tamron, and Tokina lenses with Canon mount (autofocus is not supported with most third-party lenses; lens registration may be required before use)
Aberration corrections such as vignetting, distortion, chromatic aberration
Autofocus confirmation (e.g., Dandelion)
Attaching another adapter (e.g., some M42 adapters may physically damage a Metabones Smart)
Autofocus speed is very slow for most moving subjects and is not suitable for professional use.
Only Canon lenses introduced after 2006 are officially supported. Autofocus does not work with older Canon lenses and most third-party lenses, including Sigma, Tamron, Tokina, and Canotax N lenses modified by Conurus.
On NEX camcorders, autofocus is available only in photo mode.
Continuous AF is not supported.
DMF is not supported.
During video recording on NEX cameras (except camcorders, e.g., NEX-7), if the subject moves you must half-press the shutter button to reactivate autofocus and reacquire the subject.
The first two autofocus attempts are used for lens calibration, so the lens may fail to lock; to reacquire, half-press the shutter again.
Autofocus may struggle near the lens’s minimum focusing distance.
Autofocus accuracy strongly depends on the lens condition.
Lenses with hidden issues that may not appear on Canon DSLRs can show focusing accuracy issues on Sony NEX.
Autofocus is supported only on adapter models Mark III and Mark II, not Mark I. Firmware version 14 or higher is required; upgrades are factory-only.
