Sony Alpha 7S II full-frame mirrorless camera features ISO sensitivity up to 409500, low noise levels for both photo and video shooting, a wide dynamic range, and the ability to record full-frame 4K video internally to memory cards. The autofocus system is based on 169 contrast-detection points. Sony Alpha 7S II includes built-in 5-axis in-body image stabilization.
The 35 mm full-frame Exmor CMOS sensor with 12 MP resolution delivers wide dynamic range and low noise across all ISO settings thanks to an optimized design with gapless on-chip lenses and large photosites. This ensures detailed rendering in both shadows and highlights under almost any lighting conditions. The BIONZ X image processor is optimized for improved performance. With 169 autofocus points (including contrast AF points and central segmented AF areas), the autofocus system maintains high accuracy even in low-light conditions down to EV-4. Eye AF is available in continuous AF-C mode, automatically maintaining focus on a moving subject’s eyes for easier framing. An expanded flexible spot AF mode is also available: if the selected AF point is not precisely on the subject, the camera automatically uses surrounding AF points.
Image stabilization on the Sony Alpha 7S II is equivalent to approximately 4.5 stops of shutter speed compensation and effectively corrects five types of camera shake. The camera supports internal 4K recording to memory cards with full-pixel readout (QFHD: 3840×2160). Full readout without pixel binning minimizes moiré and aliasing. XAVC S support enables 4K recording at bit rates up to 100 Mb/s. Internal recording and 4K HDMI output are available in full-frame mode. Dynamic range profiles can be expanded up to 1300% for smoother tonal gradation, accurate color reproduction, and flexible exposure adjustment. S-Log3 improves tonal reproduction from shadows to midtones (18% gray) and supports a 14-stop dynamic range. S-Gamut3.Cine covers a wide color gamut close to DCI-P3. Gamma Display Assist allows natural-contrast monitoring by converting S-Log2/S-Log3 to ITU709 (800%) for preview and focus checking via both the viewfinder and LCD.
Sony Alpha 7S II supports full-pixel readout without pixel binning and recording at 120 fps. At 120 fps, internal recording and 4x/5x slow-motion playback are supported at 30p (25p) or 24p. Zebra display enables precise exposure control, especially when shooting with S-Log. The camera offers an expanded selectable video signal level range, simplifying exposure adjustments.
Picture Profiles allow adjustment of tonal gradation, color, and detail parameters before recording. Up to nine profiles (PP1–PP9) can be saved and applied, including S-Gamut3.Cine/S-Log3 and S-Gamut3/S-Log3. The camera supports uncompressed video output in 4K and Full HD to external monitors or recorders while simultaneously recording internally. Compatibility with 14-bit uncompressed RAW allows selection of the optimal format for specific production needs.
The electronic viewfinder features ZEISS T* coating and high magnification, delivering a clear, high-contrast image with minimal flare. Exposure compensation, white balance, and other adjustments are displayed in real time in the viewfinder. For video shooting, functions such as Gamma Display Assist and Zebra are available.
Silent shooting fully disables shutter noise and can be used at continuous shooting speeds up to 5 fps. Built-in Wi-Fi and NFC enable instant transfer of photos and MP4 videos to NFC-enabled smartphones or tablets.
