Sony Alpha A6400 digital interchangeable-lens camera with E mount and a 24.2 MP APS-C sensor delivers high performance and includes features found in full-frame models: AI-based Eye AF, high-precision real-time tracking, high-speed continuous shooting, and 4K HDR video recording.
The 24.2 MP APS-C Exmor CMOS sensor provides ISO 100–32,000 and low-noise image quality. Combined with the next-generation BIONZ X processor, it delivers high resolution, sharpness, and detailed texture reproduction.
Fast, accurate autofocus in 0.02 s is achieved with 425 phase-detection points and contrast AF. High-density tracking AF can follow even erratic moving subjects. For ultra-precise AF (e.g., macro), the focus area can be magnified and the focus point fine-tuned in the EVF or on the LCD.
Low-light AF improves performance down to EV -2 (ISO 100, f/2.0 lens) in AF-S.
Real-time Eye AF detects and focuses on the subject’s eyes with a half-press of the shutter. Left eye, right eye, or auto selection is available. In AF-C, it maintains stable focus even when part of the face is obscured, backlit, or looking down.
In manual focus, a focus peaking function highlights the sharpest areas in the image. Blue peaking is available in addition to red, yellow, and white, improving visibility for fine focus adjustments.
While tracking fast subjects, the motion tracker uses a recognition algorithm based on color, brightness/structure, distance (depth), and face/eye position.
The 3-inch (921,000-dot) high-resolution LCD tilts up to 180° for self-portraits and vlogging.
Continuous shooting up to 11 fps (with live view after shooting) or 8 fps (silent shutter) is available, with minimized display lag. Up to 116 JPEG images (standard) can be captured in a continuous burst with grouped display output.
Super 35mm 4K recording with full pixel readout and no pixel binning captures about 2.4× more data than standard 4K requirements, effectively using 6K-level information for more realistic depth. XAVC S supports up to 100 Mb/s data rates, and HLG is supported.
For RAW shooting, 14-bit signals are processed as 16-bit internally before conversion back to 14-bit RAW, producing smoother, more natural tonal gradation.
Slow-motion up to 5× and fast-motion up to 60× are available in Full HD, without requiring PC post-processing. High-bitrate Full HD recording (up to 100 Mb/s) can also be used for high-quality slow-motion in post.
Fast hybrid AF supports speed, precision, and tracking for 4K video. AF tracking sensitivity can be adjusted for stable focus or faster refocus depending on the scene. A touch tracking function allows starting tracking of a moving subject by tapping the LCD.
S-Log profiles support post color grading. S-Log3 and S-Log2 provide extended dynamic range (up to 1300%) to minimize unwanted brightening or darkening; S-Log3 provides up to 14 stops of exposure latitude.
Interval shooting (1–60 s) is supported; time-lapse videos can be created using stills and PC software. Variable-speed preview lets you check the result in-camera.
Professional workflow features include clean HDMI, timecode and user bits, recording control, marker display and settings, Zebra, slow/quick motion, simultaneous proxy recording, still extraction from video, gamma display assist, and on-screen ISO display during shooting when using auto ISO.
With compatible wireless external flashes, rear-curtain sync and slow sync can be set. Maximum burst speed depends on settings and flash. Rear-curtain sync cannot be used with light-controlled flashes.
