Canon XA35 is an entry-level compact multifunction camcorder with dual-format recording (Full HD AVCHD 28 Mb/s or MP4 35 Mb/s) to two SD cards, a 20× zoom lens with optical image stabilization, and an HD-SDI output for a wide range of shooting scenarios, including high-contrast lighting. A 3.5″ OLED touchscreen simplifies control during shooting, and Wi-Fi enables remote transfer. An 8-blade iris and EDM technology provide pleasing bokeh.
The 26.8 mm wide-angle lens with f/1.8–2.8 aperture enables close work with subjects, while the dynamic optical stabilizer compensates shake in five directions. The HD CMOS PRO sensor (1/2.84″) with 2.91 MP effective pixels provides wide dynamic range and realistic color. The 1.23M-dot rotating OLED touchscreen and a 0.24″ EVF (1.56M dots) with 45° tilt improve operator workflow. Image settings include Wide DR (expanding dynamic range up to 600%) and Highlight Priority to preserve detail in highlights and shadows for more natural images.
AVCHD can be recorded up to 28 Mb/s at 1080/50P; MP4 up to 35 Mb/s at 1080/50P. Dual card slots allow simultaneous recording of HD and lower-resolution MP4 for quick sharing. MP4 supports slow and fast recording from 2× to 1200×. An infrared light source in the handle supports night and low-light shooting. Built-in dual-band Wi-Fi supports wireless transfer via phone, iOS tablet, or FTP at up to 150 Mb/s and enables remote control without apps. Canon XA35 supports comprehensive audio control with two XLR inputs and supports Linear PCM and Dolby Digital audio. Built-in microphone options and a 3.5 mm mini-jack are also available.
