Panasonic AU-EVA1 is a compact cinema camera with a Super 35 sensor and 5.7K resolution (5720×3016, approx. 17.25 MP), designed specifically for handheld shooting. Starting from higher native resolution enables improved image quality when downsampled to 4K, UHD, 2K, and 720p, with increased color information for sharper, more accurate images. The camera is well suited for documentaries, advertising, and music videos.
EVA1 features dual native ISO. Using a new sensor readout method, dual native ISO extracts more information without degrading image quality. The camera can switch from ISO 800 to ISO 2500 with minimal noise increase and fewer artifacts. Dual native ISO helps reduce lighting requirements, saving time and cost and expanding creative options. V-Log and V-Gamut gamma curves provide accurate color and rich skin tones, enabling use of wide dynamic range and deep color. V-Log has characteristics similar to negative film; V-Gamut supports a wider color space than film.
The camera supports high-quality MOV codecs up to 10-bit 4:2:2 even in 4K, as well as AVCHD. Internal recording covers 4K, UHD, 2K, Full HD, and HD, with frame rates up to 59.94/50 fps in 4K/UHD, up to 120/100 fps in 2K/Full HD, and up to 240/200 fps (cropped area) for high-speed recording. Recording uses two SD card slots and supports Relay Rec (continuous recording) or Simul Rec (simultaneous recording to both cards).
Electronic image stabilization compensates shake and motion blur for handheld and shoulder shooting. An integrated ND filter wheel behind the lens mount provides 2/4/6-stop ND for precise exposure and aperture control. A removable infrared filter enables infrared effects and night-vision-style imagery. The built-in EF mount supports a wide range of EF lenses, including cinema lenses from various manufacturers.
Professional features include two balanced XLR audio inputs with Dolby Audio encoding. 4K video outputs are available via HDMI and SDI, allowing independent routing: HD to a viewfinder or monitor, and 4K to an external recorder or monitor. EVA1 includes a timecode synchronization interface. The adjustable handle provides multiple controls including menu access, record start/stop, iris control, and two user buttons. The LCD monitor includes a touchscreen and multiple mounting options. EVA1 weighs 1.2 kg (body only) and has a compact form factor (17×13.5×13.3 cm) with a removable handle, suitable for efficient handheld shooting and use on drones, gimbals, and cranes.
