Sony SEL 100mm f/2.8 STF GM OSS (T-stop equivalent f/5.6) is a medium-telephoto prime lens with a 100 mm focal length. High resolution and a distinctive bokeh effect make it a strong addition to the G Master series and ideal for shoots where attention is concentrated on the subject.

Thanks to spherical aberration compensation, low-dispersion glass, and aspherical elements, the lens delivers high resolution and sharpness, with contrast performance corresponding to 50 line pairs/mm, which underpins the G Master optical design. This level of sharpness is maintained across the entire image area.

Designed specifically for smooth, natural bokeh, the lens includes a unique apodization optical element (APD) and an 11-blade circular aperture. The APD element is a special filter that gradually reduces light transmission from center to edges, softening the edges of point highlights to create smooth bokeh in the foreground and background with minimal double imaging. The circular aperture remains highly rounded even when partially stopped down. The lens is engineered to minimize vignetting that can distort highlights toward the edges of the frame. Point light sources render as clean, round bokeh discs across the image. Sunlight filtering through leaves or reflecting from them is rendered particularly well. The lens includes a macro mode ring, allowing switching into a close-focus range where bokeh looks most pronounced. Minimum focusing distance in macro mode is 0.57 m with a maximum magnification of 0.25x, without a loss of resolution. Sony Nano AR coating effectively suppresses unwanted flare and ghosting, especially in backlit conditions, helping achieve high contrast, crisp detail, and deep blacks.

The Direct Drive SSM (DDSSM) linear drive provides fast, accurate, quiet autofocus. The lens supports both contrast AF and on-sensor phase-detection AF. The drive uses a Sony piezoelectric motor that directly moves the focus ring; ring stopping is precisely controlled for maximum focusing accuracy. Operation is nearly silent, which is important for wildlife and filmmaking. Manual focus is also smooth and responsive.

Optical SteadyShot stabilization helps maintain maximum sharpness at longer shutter speeds. Additional 5-axis stabilization is provided by compatible camera bodies. For easier photo and video operation, the lens includes an aperture ring with a click on/off switch, a focus hold button, an AF/MF switch, and a wide focus ring for confident control. A rubber gasket at the mount and overall weather-sealed design provide dust and moisture resistance for demanding conditions.
