The 11-blade aperture and f/2.8 maximum aperture produce expressive bokeh with smooth background blur outside the focus area. The optical design includes 16 elements in 13 groups, including four aspherical elements and two special low-dispersion glass elements to reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations, color fringing, distortion, and other optical artifacts. Two linear motors provide fast, quiet focusing. The lens is characterized by low axial shift and minimal focus breathing, reducing image shift when changing focal length.
