Canon 580EX II flash is an updated version of the Canon 580EX and performs well both as a standalone flash and for controlling multiple flashes. Guide number 58 makes the compact Canon 580EX II powerful enough for bounced flash and telephoto use. E-TTL II provides stable, accurate exposure in any situation. For creative control, power can be set manually in 1/3-stop increments from 1/1 to 1/128. Flash head zoom range is 24–105 mm, and with the built-in wide-angle diffuser it covers 14 mm. When used with compatible EOS DSLR cameras, the flash automatically detects sensor size and adjusts head zoom for optimal illumination, reducing power consumption and shortening recycle time.
Canon 580EX II can act as a wireless master to control three groups of Canon EX-series slave flashes. E-TTL or manual flash exposure control allows portable multi-light setups. With compatible EOS DSLRs, the Speedlite 580EX II transmits color temperature information to the camera for accurate white balance.
Stroboscopic mode for creative photography of moving subjects can be used with a single Canon 580EX II or multiple units. Flash frequency is adjustable from 1–199 Hz. With compatible cameras, flash settings (including power, wireless operation, and all 14 custom functions) can be configured via the camera menu.
