Canon EOS 5D Mark IV features a 30.4 MP sensor, 4K video recording, ISO up to 32,000 (expandable to 102,400), improved autofocus and image processing, and built-in GPS and Wi-Fi. The 30.4 MP CMOS sensor delivers high detail with low noise in both bright and dark areas. Each of the 30.4 million pixels consists of two photodiodes that can be used together or separately, enabling Dual Pixel RAW (DPRAW). This format stores two images captured from slightly different viewpoints, enabling micro-adjustment of the sharpest focus plane in post using Digital Photo Professional.
Digital noise is reduced and performance improved across the ISO range. Maximum ISO is increased to ISO 32,000 (expandable to ISO 102,400), improving low-light capability. Built-in lens aberration correction and Digital Lens Optimizer compensate diffraction, chromatic aberration, and low-pass filter effects. White balance presets include options such as “Ambient priority” to preserve warm tones under artificial light and “White priority” for neutral rendering.
The autofocus system includes 61 points (21 cross-type). The AF sensor can focus effectively down to EV -3.2; in Live View with Dual Pixel CMOS AF, this can improve to EV -4.3. A 150,000-pixel RGB+IR metering sensor improves exposure metering accuracy and works with AF to detect and track colored subjects and recognize faces. EOS iTR AF improves subject tracking performance. The camera can detect light source flicker and synchronize capture with peak brightness (supports 100 Hz and 120 Hz flicker), reducing flicker artifacts. Continuous shooting supports 7 fps (up to 21 RAW frames or unlimited JPEG), and in Live View up to 4.3 fps with tracking AF.
Video recording supports 4K (CF cards should have a minimum write speed of 100 MB/s), as well as Full HD and lower. In Full HD, slow motion up to 60 fps is available; in HD, up to 120 fps. Dual Pixel CMOS AF provides smooth, accurate focus transitions at any resolution. HDR video mode is supported by alternating normal and underexposed frames to preserve highlight detail and reduce overbright areas. Interval shooting supports up to 3,600 frames to create up to 2 minutes of Full HD video. Microphone and headphone jacks allow audio recording and monitoring. HDMI outputs uncompressed Full HD audio/video to external recorders and monitors.
Built-in Wi-Fi and NFC support connection to a smartphone, tablet, or laptop, and direct connection to selected cloud apps for image sharing. FTP/FTPS support provides additional protection. Remote control is supported via Canon Camera Connect (iOS/Android). Built-in GPS logs shooting coordinates for each image and maintains accurate internal clock time, helping organize images by location.
