Canon EOS R5 mirrorless camera with a 45 MP full-frame CMOS sensor supports continuous shooting at up to 20 fps and records 8K RAW video using the full sensor area. The advanced autofocus system uses artificial intelligence and deep learning, while in-body image stabilization works together with lens stabilization to provide up to 8 stops of shake compensation. The full-frame CMOS sensor delivers high detail, low noise, and wide dynamic range, making it ideal for Canon RF lenses. The camera supports ISO up to 51,200 for high-quality images even in low light. Canon EOS R5 also includes Dual Pixel RAW for portrait lighting adjustment and background sharpness selection.
Enhanced technology enables focusing on a subject in as little as 0.05 seconds. Autofocus has 5,940 zones that can be grouped or selected individually and moved across the frame as action unfolds. In face/eye detection mode, the system accurately recognizes faces even when only one eye is visible. This maintains image sharpness when shooting subjects with unpredictable movement at shallow depth of field. If a person turns away from the camera, the head remains in focus so the face appears sharp again when they turn back. In addition, the EOS R5 deep-learning AF can detect and track cats, dogs, and birds, focusing on their body, face, or eyes—making wildlife photography significantly easier, especially birds in flight and similar subjects.
The camera supports internal 8K DCI RAW recording to a CFexpress memory card and uses the full full-frame sensor area to create a cinematic look. Continuous autofocus is supported to help produce professional-level video. Available 8K recording modes include: 12-bit RAW, 10-bit 4:2:2 MP4/H.265, and 8-bit 4:2:0 MP4/H.265.
Full-frame 4K DCI and 4K UHD footage can be recorded up to 120 fps (119.88) in 10-bit 4:2:2 for high-resolution smooth slow motion. Up to 59.94 fps, you can choose full-frame or a 1.6x crop mode for a Super 35–like format. The image stabilization system that prevents blur in photos also works for video, compensating unwanted camera shake. Combined with electronic digital video stabilization, it improves overall performance and helps deliver smoother camera movement. Approximate recording times at 23°C (without prior camera use) are:
– Full-frame mode: 20 minutes
– Full-frame mode (RAW): 20 minutes
– Full-frame mode: 15 minutes
– Full-frame mode: 35 minutes
– APS-C crop (5.1K oversampled): 25 minutes
– Full-frame mode: not limited by overheating
– Full-frame mode (high quality, 8.2K oversampled): 30 minutes
The camera can use Wi-Fi to connect to mobile devices, upload images to the cloud via image.canon, or send files directly via FTP. Continuous low-power Bluetooth connectivity is available for ongoing data exchange with mobile devices. Canon EOS R5 has two memory card slots: one for SD cards (including high-speed SD UHS-II) and one for high-performance CFexpress cards, providing the write speed needed for continuous bursts of 180 RAW files at 20 fps and high-resolution video recording. Power is supplied by an LP-E6NH battery.
