Lastolite LU3223F combination umbrella (72 cm diameter) features a removable outer cover with a silver reflective surface and can be used as either a shoot-through or reflective umbrella. Shoot-through umbrellas are placed with the outer side facing the subject, with the flash also aimed toward the subject; as light passes through the fabric, it diffuses, increases the apparent source size, and illuminates the subject evenly.

Reflective umbrellas are typically used with the reflective surface facing the subject, while the light source is aimed away from the subject. Along with softening shadows due to indirect use and a slight reduction in light output, the umbrella can add a cooler tone to skin. The umbrella shaft diameter is 8 mm.
