Metabones Canon EF – Sony E Speed Booster Ultra adapter

Category:
Brand:

Speed Booster Ultra feature set (Canon EF to Sony E APS-C) supports PDAF on A7 II/A7R II, IBIS (5-axis when lens reports distance), lens IS, EXIF, and APS-C mode detection, but requires APS-C/S35 mode on full-frame bodies, does not support Eye AF/Continuous AF/DMF, and AF speed in video and with moving subjects is limited.

Clear dates

Phase-detection autofocus for Sony Alpha 7R II and Sony Alpha 7 II
5-axis stabilization for Sony Alpha 7 II and Sony Alpha 7R II (lens distance information is required; otherwise 3-axis stabilization is used)
Lens stabilization (IS)
Electronic manual focus (e.g., Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II and Canon EF 50mm f/1.0L)
EXIF (focal length, aperture, zoom range)
Display of distance and zoom on VG and FS camcorder series (with lenses that support distance information)
Recognition of “APS-C sensor” mode on full-frame cameras
Canon EF-S / DX / DC / Di II lenses
Aberration corrections such as vignetting, distortion, chromatic aberration
Speed Booster Ultra is designed for APS-C sensors and does not cover full-frame. When used on full-frame cameras, “APS-C/Super 35 mm” mode must be set to Auto or On
Fast phase-detection AF is supported only on Sony Alpha 7 II and Sony Alpha 7R II; on other Sony cameras, contrast AF is very slow for moving subjects
Even on Sony Alpha 7 II and Sony Alpha 7R II, autofocus performance decreases significantly with long focal length lenses as focal length increases
On Sony Alpha 7R II, central AF points perform well, while edge/corner points are much less effective with fast lenses or telephoto lenses
During video recording on Sony Alpha 7 II and Sony Alpha 7R II, the adapter supports contrast AF only, which may result in unsatisfactory AF speed
During video recording, autofocus must be activated manually by half-pressing the shutter button when the subject moves; due to slow contrast AF, results may be unsatisfactory
On NEX FS-series (NEX-FS700 / NEX-FS100) and PXW FS-series (FS7 and FS5), autofocus is available only in photo mode
Eye AF is not supported
Continuous AF is not supported
DMF is not supported
The first two autofocus attempts are used for lens calibration, so the lens may fail to lock; to reacquire, half-press the shutter again
Autofocus may struggle near the lens’s minimum focusing distance
Autofocus accuracy strongly depends on lens condition; lenses with hidden issues may show focusing accuracy problems on Sony NEX
Early Tamron VC lenses such as the 17–50mm f/2.8 B005 may switch poorly between OIS and IBIS because they do not report IS status; newer versions work well
EF lenses may produce noise during aperture changes and autofocus, which can be picked up by the camera’s internal microphone during video recording; external microphones are recommended
Some third-party battery grips may cause aperture “jumping”; disable third-party power or use an original battery grip
