Sony Alpha A6500 digital interchangeable-lens camera features a 24.2 MP APS-C Exmor CMOS sensor. With the BIONZ X image processor, it supports ISO 100–51,200 with low noise. A high-speed front-end LSI with copper wiring enables 4K and Full HD recording at up to 120 fps (100 fps). High-density tracking AF effectively activates focus points and precisely tracks moving subjects. The camera has 425 focal-plane phase-detection points for stable, accurate focus across the frame. Autofocus acquires in 0.05 s. Touch Focus enables changing the focus point by tapping the screen; sliding a finger on the touchpad allows moving the focus point without taking your eye from the viewfinder.
Three drive modes are available. Continuous shooting reaches 11 fps with minimal viewfinder/LCD display lag. The buffer holds up to 307 images in continuous shooting. RAW images can be saved at up to 107 frames. The XGA OLED Tru-Finder EVF (2.4M dots) delivers high contrast and resolution. The 3.0-inch (921.6K-dot) LCD tilts 90° up and 45° down. The LCD uses WhiteMagic RGBW pixel structure to remain bright in daylight.
Sony Alpha A6500 includes 5-axis in-body stabilization using sensor platform shift, helping produce sharp images and stable video in challenging conditions. With Sony E lenses that also include stabilization, both systems can work together. The shutter design reduces blur from vibration using a mechanism that releases at the end of the rear-curtain travel and a shock-absorbing elastic material.
4K UHD (3840×2160) recording up to 30 fps is performed in Super 35mm format using a 20 MP area, effectively recording at 6K. This pixel overhead is used to improve video quality, such as through oversampling. The camera supports S-Gamut and S-Log profiles for greater post-production and grading flexibility. S-Log provides up to 14 stops of dynamic range. Gamma display assist and Zebra are available during video recording.
Power uses an NP-FW50 battery. A fully charged new battery provides up to 310 shots (up to 350 shots with the LCD off). The camera can also run from an external battery or a USB adapter, which can also charge the internal battery. Wireless interfaces include Wi-Fi, NFC, and Bluetooth. Supported applications include Sony PlayMemories Home and Capture One Express (for Sony). Remote control via smartphone is also available.
