Sony Alpha 7S III full-frame mirrorless camera features a 12.1 MP back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor and an upgraded processor compared to previous models. The camera delivers professional photo and video capabilities thanks to high full-frame sensor performance, including extended ISO up to 409600, 15 stops of dynamic range, 4K 120p recording, fast and reliable autofocus, and highly effective stabilization. Mechanical or electronic shutter with AF/AE tracking supports continuous shooting up to 10 fps. In uncompressed RAW continuous shooting, more than 1000 frames can be captured. The camera includes integrated 5-axis in-body image stabilization.
The 12.1 MP back-illuminated full-frame Exmor R CMOS sensor offers improved light-gathering efficiency, enhanced circuitry, and optimized signal processing, doubling readout speed. This enables high image quality across the sensitivity range and up to 15 stops of dynamic range. The sensor includes on-sensor phase-detection autofocus. The BIONZ XR processor is up to 8 times more powerful than previous processors, delivering high image quality and improved interface responsiveness. Wide-area autofocus uses intelligent tracking and on-sensor phase detection. Precise and responsive autofocus combined with E-mount lenses delivers sharp results even when filming moving subjects at shallow depth of field in 4K 120p.
Sony Alpha 7S III records 4K video at up to 120 fps in 10-bit 4:2:2, providing flexible color grading, post-production, and compositing options. In addition to Long GOP, All-Intra encoding is available, with each frame encoded independently at bit rates up to 600 Mb/s, simplifying editing and supporting complex motion. The XAVC HS format uses HEVC/H.265 encoding, doubling compression efficiency compared to AVC/H.264 while maintaining high image quality and reducing file sizes. The camera offers extended ISO 80–409600 and standard ISO 80–102400, with low noise performance suitable for extremely low-light conditions.
HDMI Type-A output supports 16-bit RAW signal output to external recorders using XAVC HS 4K, XAVC S 4K, or XAVC S-I 4K formats. The camera can simultaneously record proxy files. Both memory card slots support CFexpress Type A for high-speed recording and SDXC UHS-II cards, enabling fast buffer clearing and flexible parallel or relay recording.
