Sony FDR-AX100 camera features a 29 mm Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* wide-angle lens optimized for 4K and a 12× optical zoom. The camera uses an Exmor R CMOS sensor approximately 4.9× larger than typical sensors in portable camcorders, providing higher sharpness, reduced noise, and improved background blur. Edge sharpness is maintained using an 11/17-element lens group with aspherical and low-dispersion elements. The BIONZ X processor improves realism and adds functions that benefit from faster processing. Recording uses XAVC S for 4K/HD. HD recording up to 50 Mb/s supports high-quality capture for fast action. Playback of all data in all modes is not guaranteed with MP4 playback devices/software.
Additional processing functions include pixel-level super resolution, motion shooting mode, SteadyShot optical stabilization, and dual video recording. In HD (1280×720), the camera supports 120 fps, enabling approximately 5× slow-motion playback at 24p after additional post-processing. 120p is available only in XAVC S. A side control ring enables fast adjustment of aperture, ISO, and shutter speed. Built-in ND filters include: clear, 1/4, 1/16, 1/64 ND. The large sensor enables strong bokeh without slower shutter speeds even outdoors in sunlight. Dual recording is available: XAVC S or AVCHD for maximum quality, plus MP4, and the camera supports 4K recording in XAVC S.
Built-in Wi-Fi and NFC enable one-touch wireless transfer of videos and photos to a phone or tablet. Intelligent remote control can be activated via NFC, and recording can be controlled from a mobile phone, useful for night shooting to avoid camera shake. Wi-Fi also supports wireless playback to a network-connected TV (TV must support DLNA; not compatible with XAVC S). 5.1-channel surround audio is supported, with AVCHD supporting Dolby Digital 5.1 and 2-channel stereo; PCM is supported in XAVC S. My Voice Cancelling balances your voice and surrounding sounds by detecting the sound source and partially attenuating sound from behind the camera.
