Sony PXW-FS5 camcorder with a high-quality Exmor 4K Super 35 sensor supports recording in 4K XAVC QFHD, XAVC HD, and AVCHD, includes Super Slow Motion up to 960 fps, built-in ND filters, and 14 stops of dynamic range. Compared to larger models, Sony PXW-FS5 is designed for tight spaces and stabilization systems, including drones. The LCD viewfinder can be connected to 9 different ports. The camera includes built-in ND filters and a variable ND filter with density from 1/4 to 1/128. The handle and the top and bottom panels include 1/4″ threaded mounting holes for use on drones, gimbals, or underwater housings.
Sony PXW-FS5 records 4K 3840×2160 at 100 Mb/s using Sony XAVC Long GOP. For faster workflows, Full HD 1920×1080 XAVC is available at 60 fps with 10-bit depth, 4:2:2 sampling, and 50 Mb/s bitrate. The camera provides 14 stops of exposure latitude. Full HD XAVC recording at 240 fps is supported in 10-bit 4:2:2. At 24 fps playback, this enables up to 10× slow motion without reducing color depth or cropping the sensor. The FS5 can be quickly disassembled without specialized tools. The rental kit includes the SONY SEL 18–105 G f/4.0 lens, suitable for this camera; the 6× power zoom can be controlled via the Smart Grip handle. Lens lever and ring allow zoom speed control without compromising camera stability.
Centre Scan Mode provides compatibility with Super 16 cinema lenses by using the center portion of the sensor for 2160×1080 recording, avoiding vignetting. A 2× digital extender effectively doubles the HD range. XAVC Long GOP supports Full HD 10-bit 4:2:2 at 50/35/25 Mb/s depending on frame rate, and 4K 4:2:0 at 100 or 60 Mb/s. S-Log3 is supported for easier grading and more shadow/midtone levels. Color spaces S-Gamut3 and S-Gamut3.Cine are supported: S-Gamut3 is suitable for archiving, while S-Gamut3.Cine aligns well with DCI-P3. Live streaming and broadcast workflows are supported via built-in wireless and Ethernet adapters. Smartphone/tablet control is supported, with NFC one-touch pairing.
