Sony SEL 50 f/1.8 lens is designed for active shooting on full-frame Sony E-mount cameras. It is highly compact and lightweight—only 186 g. Ideal for everyday use and portrait photography. The large f/1.8 maximum aperture offers a significant advantage for night scenes and low-light conditions.

The lens uses a Planar (double Gauss) optical design that includes an aspherical element. This minimizes spherical aberration and coma and delivers high image quality to the edges of the frame. The design also reduces field curvature and other optical distortions. The f/1.8 aperture and 7-blade diaphragm create an artistic background defocus effect that helps isolate the subject. A DC motor drive system provides accurate focusing with near-silent operation (motor noise may be audible in video). Focusing is smooth in both autofocus and manual modes.
